A small delegation from the Nervión team has been able to attend the kind invitation of Gaizka Zuazo, Director of the new KUNSTHAL Superior Design Center, to visit its headquarters in what was our plant in Ribera de Deusto until 2007.
As the memory of the Bilbao city council says:
”The new headquarters of KUNSTHAL - IED BILBAO are located in the iconic Edificio Papelera (Manuel Andonza, 1958), on the island of Zorrotzaurre, as part of the urban regeneration project launched by the Bilbao City Council with the aim of converting this island is the creative and cultural meeting point of the region.
With 2,442 square meters destined for design, the old and emblematic building of Papelera del Nervión is the only vaulted building on the island, one of the few existing buildings of this type in the province of Biscay, and is one of the 17 industrial buildings that remain in the Zorrotzaurre Special Plan. The already known as Island of Knowledge and Talent will turn this area of ​​the capital of Biscay into an international benchmark in sustainability and urban regeneration. An important pillar for the projection of EID (European institute of Design), since it is key for the growth of the entity to be present in strategic and culturally active cities such as Bilbao.
Kindly guided by Tomás Carrascal, head of the Department of Communication and professor in the Area of ​​Design Theory and Culture, we walked with enthusiasm through the renovated and dynamic centre, and we received his affectionate invitation for another visit, extended to our entire team, when the circumstances allow it.
